As President of TBI Construction Company, an affiliate of the Tomasso Group located in New Britain, Connecticut, William Tomasso has led the family-owned company since 1987 and has played a key role in expanding its focus from foundation excavation to large private- and public-sector construction projects. William Tomasso oversees the company’s construction-management and building services for complex ventures. TBI handled all stages of development for the 65,000-sqaure-foot structure, which ranged from site selection and obtaining government approvals, to handling the pre-construction design and construction. The team selected a former quarry for the cancer center’s location, which required the excavation of 42,000 yards of material. Additionally, the unearthed matter was processed on-site for use as structural fill and final grading for parking areas and roadways.
Following its completion, the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute opened in Spring 2015. The facilities, which possess equipment for all major cancer treatments, encompass exam rooms, a chemotherapy pharmacy, phlebotomy lab, linear accelerator vaults, and infusion bays.
